Generally, new sod takes about 2 to 3 weeks to establish its root system. During this period, it is crucial to avoid heavy foot traffic on the lawn to allow the grass to anchor firmly into the soil.
How often should I water my new sod?
Newly installed sod needs consistent moisture. For the first two weeks, we recommend watering your lawn at least twice a day—once in the morning and once in the late afternoon—to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
When can I mow my new lawn for the first time?
You should wait at least 3 to 4 weeks after installation before your first mow. By then, the grass will be well-rooted. Make sure your mower blades are sharp and avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass blade height.
What is the best time of year to install sod?
While sod can be installed year-round in Florida, the best times are during the spring and fall when temperatures are moderate. This allows the turf to establish roots without the stress of extreme summer heat or winter frost.
